Fact Check: No protest occurred at Emir of Ilorin’s palace on Saturday

A video with a caption that Kwara residents protest at Emir of Ilorin palace has been circulating on X formerly known as Twitter

The footage which was posted by an X user @manofthemomen showed people protesting at Emir of Ilorin palace.

The caption on the video read:

Kwara residents protest at Emir of Ilorin’s house, expressing frustration with Gov @RealAARahman failure to address food security and hardship caused by APC as kwara ranks 2nd for the 3rd time in hardship and food crisis. This is the first protest of its kind in Kwara’s history.

The video post have garnered over 5,810 views, 39 likes, 37 Repost and 11 likes as of February 19, 2024.

Another X user, @LPLagosMedia posted the same video with another caption thus:

There was serious protest at the Emir’s Palace(Ibrahim Gambari) in Ilorin Kwara State.

And the people were shouting we are Hungry (Ebi Pa Wa o), The state is Hungry.

The video has also garnered 1,109 viewers, 15 Repost, 1 Quote and 19 likes since when it was posted on February, 2024.

The Findings

Findings by Factcheck247 show that the claim is FALSE

Factcheck247 observed that the same video was uploaded around May 20, 2021, by Glorious Biola on Facebook.

The spokesperson to the Emir of Ilorin, AbdulAzeez Arowona in his reaction to the viral video said it didn’t portray a current action.
