There was mild confusion in the Kwara State civil service, early Monday, when governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq paid an unscheduled visit to the state secretariat complex Ilorin only to find out that only about 10cent of workers had resumed duty as at 8:30 a.m.
The Kwara state Government secretariat hosts about 6 ministries. But the governor was said to be shocked to meet only about 10 per cent of staff within the secretariat complex. The absent workers represent 90 per cent of those on the payroll of the state government, who work at the secretariat.
The flabbergasted governor was said to have decided to stay in the complex for over an hour with the aim of keeping an inventory of those he would find within the complex between 8.00 and 9.00 am left surprised that people who need their services were left with no choice than to wait despite coming from as far as Kaiama early enough.
While the governor was within the complex, civil servants, especially junior workers were seen frantically calling on their colleagues or bosses to be around.
A staff, who our correspondent couldn’t independently verify his identity, was grilled by the governor for unlocking the office doors by 8.30am claimed he went to pray. Asked why he didn’t open the door before going to mosque, he kept mute.
Messages sent to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye for his reaction has not yet been replied till time of publishing this report.
