A Magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital has on Thursday 30th May, 2019 condemned one David James to one year jail term over burglary and theft related offences.
The police First Information Report (FIR) disclosed that amid several reports on incessant house breaking and theft across various student hostels in Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, it was against this backdrop the police in collaborative efforts with the members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria launched a precautionary action.
The development was reported to have led to the eventual apprehension of the culprit who was said that his means of livelihood and home address at Malete are not traceable.
A report revealed that valuables belonging to one Oyetunji Oyeniyi of Amikisaya Hostel were recovered were a thorough search was conducted on his hideout in Malete. Among the valuables recovered were; a laptop valued at N70,000, sunglasses and clothes.
It further revealed that James confessed to have traded the stolen the laptop for a meagre sum of N10,000 in Ajase-Ipo.
He also confessed to having broken many hostels at Malete.
It was disclosed that the suspect had been rounded up on countless occasions for related criminal offences in Malete.
He was dragged before Magistrate Mohammed Rukayat for criminal trespass, house breaking, theft and vagabonds contrary to sections 342, 355, 228 and 407 of penal code law respectively.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaiye prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.
In his judgement, Magistrate Rukayat condemned James to one year term without the option of fine.
