Unpaid allowances spark indefinite strike by Ogun state judiciary staff

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Ogun State has announced an indefinite strike commencing on Monday, April 8, following unresolved disputes over unpaid allowances.

The decision to strike was triggered by the state government’s failure to address the non-payment of a 40% peculiar allowance to the judiciary workers, despite a 14-day notice.

On Sunday, April 7, JUSUN released a statement detailing their attempts to engage with the government.

According to the union, they had submitted all required documentation to Governor Dapo Abiodun and other key state officials on March 8, including confirmation from the National Salaries and Wages Commission to the National Judicial Council (NJC) approving the allowance payment.

The statement highlighted that the judiciary staff are rightfully owed this allowance.

After an additional 14-day grace period given to the Ogun State government from March 18 to April 1 to fulfill their demands went unheeded, the union, in consultation with its national leadership and other stakeholders, resolved to strike.

JUSUN has instructed all its Ogun State members to remain at home from Monday onwards, suspending any return to work until further communication is issued.
