In commemoration of the 29th convocation ceremony of the 2022/2023 academic session, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has pleaded with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take over the payment of its staff salaries for six months.

In this year’s convocation ceremony of the institution, no fewer than 8,350 students graduated during the occasion including 3,000 HNDs, 5,350 ONDs and part-time students with 102 distinctions.

According to the Rector, “Our plea is for the government to give us what I call a salary holiday for just six months. That is taking over the payment of staff salaries for that during and letting him come and see what we can do with it.

“But I tell you with that action, we will transform this institution further beyond imagination. Such ‘rebates’ will be a game changer for us.”

He, however, thanked the Governor for creating an enabling environment for the management of the institution to discharge its duties effectively.

Giving a breakdown of his landmark project, the Rector stated that its newly commissioned 33Kv injection substations power project funded from its internally generated revenue (IGR), is now powering six federal government agencies and four communities.

“The project will ensure regular power supply to the polytechnic, Apata-Yakuba, Oyun, Oke-oyi and Oke-Ose communities in Moro and Ilorin east local government areas.

“Other state and federal government agencies that will also benefit from the institution’s largesse are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara State Television Authority, Radio Kwara, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NNPCL), Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) amongst others”, he submitted.
