Residents and Motorists have continue to express dissatisfaction over the condition of the underpass culvert that leads to the Kwara State Stadium complex at Taiwo road, especially during raining season.
THE INFORMANT247 correspondent who visited the place learnt that the underpass culvert was usually filled with water such that no car was able to pass through, which obviously cause a lot of hardship for the road users, most especially those moving to the stadium complex.
While speaking with our correspondent, during the visit, a motorist, Mr. Abdufatai Jimba, expressed bitterness over the condition of the road saying it has become a threat to road users.
“Even before now, the rain makes things worst for us, it becomes filled up such that no car would be able to pass through, ordinary aside having adverse effect on our vehicles, you wouldn’t know where and how to avoid the potholes.
Ahmed Tajudeen, a footballer at the Kwara State Stadium also shared his experience with our correspondent.
“I have to pack my car on the main road and walk to the other side, because the road isn’t motorable. I would only be able to get my car into the complex if i will drive up to General Hospital U-turn, then enter the complex though Royals eatery route, which seemingly is a very long route,” said Mr. Ahmed.
Speaking with a resident who pleaded not to be named, she expressed concern over the rate at which the road is causing havoc to motorist.
She narrated how a car got hooked up inside the water on Friday, and people from far and near had to come to the rescue of the passengers.
She said, ” the car was coming from that Royals (Eatery) side when the driver who probably wasn’t very conversant with the road decided to ignore the water thinking it wasn’t that deep. On moving into the water, he wasn’t able to have control of the car again and it went deep inside with passenger inside. It took the help of Security and emergency personnel together with community members to bring the situation back to normal before thousands of sympathisers. It was quite very terrible.”
Asked what could be done, she implored the government to as a matter of urgency do something to save the condition of the culvert. “They dont need to be told that Taiwo is a very busy area and for the fact that the culvert leads to the stadium, it’s a big shame to our State.
A top official at the stadium complex, Mr. Aliyu also pleaded with the government to renovate the underpass as a matter of urgency as it is greatly affecting the activities at the stadium which he feared may have great effect on the State sporting strength.
Recall that the state government has recently embarked on “Operation fill our potholes” which covers all major road in the State capital metropolis. The state government said this was achieved through the revenue generated from Citizen Task.
However when contacted for comment, the number of the Commissioner of Works, Mr. Aro Yahya, wasn’t reachable till the time of filling this report.
