Rising Child Foundation is a not for profit making and non-governmental organization registered under the Corporate and Allied Matters Act 1990 and Law of Federation of Nigeria 2004 with registration number CAC/IT/NO 102869. We are dedicated to ensuring that children in Nigeria acquire quality basic education, irrespective of gender so that they can realize their full potential and thus contribute to the development of the nation.
Rising Child Foundation was inaugurated on the 27th day of May 2017 and has since then been planning and executing several developmental programs towards achieving this metric of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Among our programs is the #DonateBooks4IDPs initiative aimed at providing writing materials for disadvantaged children and ensuring that they are adequately equipped with the necessary materials to stay in school. We also engaged in commemorating the Global Hand Washing Day to enlighten children on the importance of maintaining personal hygiene. Part of our initiative is also the Summer Skills Acquisition program which empowered a number of young beneficiaries with a wide range of skill sets. Through our #ClothAChild initiative we have rallied for clothes for children in undeserved communities.
The organization in its quest to accomplish its mission, organized her first Kwara Spelling Bee among over 200 pupils in Kwara state (#KwaraSpellingBee1.0) in March 2018 which was televised by Television Continental (TVC). It was a huge success and the children displayed brilliance which we found motivating to do more to get across to more children.
The spelling bee competition is in line with the Reading Enrichment Project of the foundation which started two years ago. It aims to encourage the Nigerian child to read more and to learn more. Readers are leaders and the wealth of knowledge found in books cannot be compared to any other.
The foundation remains committed to advocating for quality education for all and it is set for the second edition of its spelling bee competition (#KwaraSpellingBee2.0). It is scheduled to take place at Bishops Smith Memorial College, Ilorin, Kwara state on the 14th day of March, 2019.
The target audience this year are public primary schools from Kwara Central Senatorial district (same as last year). It is our utmost desire to take up every nook and cranny in Kwara but, our resources are sadly, limited. We will like to use this opportunity to again, solicit for sponsors and partners for future editions of this educational programme.
We believe that “words change the world” and we have the opportunity to use words to shape our country’s future. In preparing the future leaders of the country, they must be armed and fully equipped with these three incontestable weapons: Speaking boldly, reading voraciously and writing eloquently.
Participants will learn new words, how to spell and pronounce them correctly- this will boost their vocabulary use in writing and speaking. Also, the competition will create an environment for friendly co-existence and teach the children to develop their sense of the need to succeed.
