The National Association of Kwara State Students, National Headquarters, has revealed that plans are underway to name its proposed secretariat complex after the late politician, Abubakar Olusola Saraki.
The President of the Association, Adisa-Jaji Azeez, informed journalists Sunday shortly after the Minister for State Transportation, Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki delivered a Zoom lecture on theme: ‘Youth as agent of social change’.
The virtual event is the largest online student gathering in the state.
Jaji said, “Yes, we have concluded plans to name our proposed secretariat complex after the late Abubakar Olusola Saraki. After construction, the building will be called Abubakar Olusola Saraki Students House.”
Speaking earlier, Saraki, daughter of the late Kwara strongman, stated that the success of the country depends on the youth, describing them as the only hope for societal change.
She, during her lecture, added, “The only way change can be effected is through education and every one should take it by the horn. I will advise you all not take your education with levity as the grades you graduated with plays an important role in societal development. Now is not the time for play, it is the time for you to work hard.”
She further urged Kwara students to take advantage of various intervention programmes of the Federal Government.
For her part, the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, urged students to embrace farming in order to assist the state achieve food security.
She expressed the government’s commitment to empowering youths in the state in order to make them realise their full potentials.
Meanwhile, the Association conferred the title of ‘Grand Commander of NAKSS’ on the Minister.
The occasion was chaired by Prof. Mohammed Olarewaju Ibrahim of the Department of Mathematics, University of Ilorin.
