The Super Eagles of Nigeria has qualified for the round of 16 of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles were luckily handed an own goal from Opa Sangante in the 37th minute of the game.
They would go on to create more chances but failed to make it count in the game that also featured VAR controversy.
Victor Osimhen, who has been misfiring since the beginning of the game, has his frustration heightened when his goal was ruled out due to a handball.
Late in the match, tension grew more high and both teams would have their goals ruled out in quick succession due to offside.
With the results, Nigeria finished second of the Group A with seven points behind Equatorial Guinea who has the same points but boast of more goals than the Eagles.
Equatorial Guinea pummeled the host, Cote D’Ivoire 4-0 in the game played simultaneously with the Nigeria’s match.
The result means that the Ivorians are practically out of the tournament as they lose the potential of grabbing the ‘best loser’s ticket to the next round due to the number of goals conceded.
Super Eagles were only able to record three goals in the group stage matches. A line of results that has left Nigerians with more doubt on whether the team will be able to match up with heavyweights in the tournament.
Nigerians will now look forward for a more better performance in the next round of the tournament where the stakes get more higher.
