The residents of Alagbado community and its environs in Ilorin South Local Government of Kwara state, experienced floods as heavy rain turns roads to water channels and drainage.
Some members of the community who put calls to the informant247 correspondent joined the hordes of the residents in describing the incident as a disaster as every household was in a panic state.
The community and it’s environs before now had pleaded to the state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed to commence the construction of the drainage and channeling as promised the day he visited the ongoing reconstruction of the collapsed Alagbado bridge which links the Sobi Specialist Hospital and the community with the city metropolis.
While speaking with The Informant247 correspondent, a resident, Mall. Yunusa Agboola said “The incident was nothing less than a disaster. We appeal to the government to do the early drainage and channelling of the water ways as a matter of urgency to avoid destructive flood in future, likewise the drainage is the only way that can increase the life span of the bridge”
Another Community member, Mr. Babatunde Alimi said “I ran home after noticing it was going to rain, as one of the committee seeing to the affairs of the community, even when I know I can only do little or nothing but the fear of the bridge without water ways really bordered me as if it will get weakened and collapse in a day.
He further appreciate Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for the work done on the bridge and the quality of materials used but he pleaded that the Governor should fulfill his promises by strengthen the bridge with drainage construction which will in other way solve the community floods issue.”
He further appeals to the State Governor to as a matter of urgency start work on the drainage and channelling.
