The Parliament has notice with dismay and shock the incessant violent and coordinated killings in some part of Nigeria especially the recent massacre of over Two hundred (200) persons which includes women and children in Plateau state, Nigeria.
Other axis in the country which had similar experiences includes Adamawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba amongst others.
We are quick to observe that these killings were based on nomadic grazing allocations, inter-ethnic bickering, religious intolerance and terrorism.
Considering the numbers of neighboring countries surrounding Nigeria and her porous borders, these killings if not urgently curbed may become a transborder occurrence and a continental endemic with its attendant implication of Refugees explosion, internally Displaced Persons IDP and socioeconomic instability within the continent .
We call on the African Union to as a matter of urgent priority intervene in stopping the continued killings of Nigerians as this is also inimical to the sustenance of Democratic values as the country prepares for another series of elections scheduled for the first quarter of 2019.
We also opine that the institutional intervention of AU will encourage other international organizations including the UN and the Commonwealth Nation’s to lend support towards eradicating this continental threatening issues.
The African Youth Parliament deeply empathize with those who lost their loved ones, shares in their pain and pray for repose of the deceased souls.
We also charge the Federal Government of Nigeria and her Military institutions to put in more strategic efforts at ensuring the delivery of their responsibilities of protecting the life and properties of her citizens.
