Dear KWASU Alumni,
I am seizing this medium to beacon on well-meaning members of the Alumni Association of our dear Alma Matter, KWASU, on the trends of glitches that characterizes this association, which to the observation of discerning members and mine as led to the inert, stagnancy, torpidity and stolidity of the association. I am a proud kwasuite and will forever remain so. I am motivated out of concern to highlight crucial issues that requires urgent attention in order for our association to achieve its defined aims and objectives.
The KWASU Alumni Association came to existence with the first set of graduates in 2013. Upon appointment of the Association’s executives by the University Vice Chancellor, they operated for over 5 years without a constitution and ignored all push for Congress to address that among other pressing issues concerning the Alumni Association.
Dear respected colleagues, I wish to inform you that the interim executive only came up with a draft constitution on the day election schedule was published, never passed through any process, due or undue, which is a prerequisite for an independent, transparent, credible and democratic association.
This was alluded to because the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah imposed the first and current President of the Association, Mr. Peter Oyinloye in 2013, without consulting even the then graduating students. Which is not in consonance with principle of morality and mutuality. The same thing I personally feel Mr. Peter Oyinloye is also trying to uphold by using method to impose another President of his choice. The incidence was not challenged as at then due to the fact that then recent graduate are still grappling dizzyingly to the sudden shock of grade alteration that was made just three days prior to the Convocation ceremony.
Dear respected Alumni, KWASU has graduated not less than 8,000 graduates with a compulsory payment of Alumni due with each individual paying #5,000 which amount to, not less than #40,000,000. Yet, nobody have deem it fit to explaining what we have been achieved with the said due payments. Noticeably, the draft constitution about to be imposed was technically tailored to sustain the shrewdness of the state of affair of the Association, going forward.
The NEC claimed to sponsor scholarship of outstanding undergraduate students numbering 20, giving each beneficiary a sum of 20,000 naira per year since 2015 however, can we have the prove of evidences?
The NEC Also claimed to clothe and provide writing materials to 10 primary school pupils yearly nonetheless, no evidence provided for the claim
Our over forty million naira supposedly for bringing about opportunities and harmonizing the interest of all KWASU graduates toward institutional and our immediate society development is perceived to being pocketed by selected few, until they find it necessary to be transparent.
I believe that an alumni association should operate for institutional development and other numerous benefits for its alumni community but reverse is the case in this instance. Do you know, ever since the inception of the association that there has never been an Annual General Meeting (AGM) called, neither Congress nor get-together that will drive beautiful coexistence of KWASU graduates organized? Yet, 5 years has gone by with no record of sustainable activities neither record of how our hard earned parents’ money (alumni dues) have been utilized.
Dear distinguished Alumni, recall that 5 years tenure is enshrined in the drafted constitution of the association yet, the president seems too comfortable in the juicy seat. He still wants to be using the office of the president, official vehicle and other benefits embedded. In lieu of this, he came up with a sudden election of new executives and the process was completely devoid of fairness and credibility with available evidences. The poor cheated aspirants raised concerns but it was never addressed because of the grapevine as it that vested interest will not allow the emergence of some of the contestants as executives.
On this note, I charge the KWASU Alumni Community to swing into to action in demanding for orderliness of the association and ensure it works for all the association and not the selected few.
I hope to receive your acknowledgement, opinion on way forward in demanding justice for all the poorly served alumni community.
I also want to use this medium to welcome the new acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Kenneth S. Adeyemi to the helm, I pray you have an impactful and successful reign.
