The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Kwara Chapter has condemn the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to hold today, February 16, 2019.
This was disclosed in a press statement released by the association in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital today.
They maintained that the “logistics reasons” sited by the chairman as reason for the election postponement only exposed the incompetency of the electoral commission in holding a credible election.
“We condemn the postponement of the elections by the electoral umpire which has denied our members and Nigerians in totality the opportunity of exercising their franchise, considering the migration of most of our members who have travelled back home with intentions of voting and fulfilling their civic rights as a noble citizen.”
“The postponement which practically has disrupted academic activities considering the academic calendars of some of our institutions who have commenced examinations or about to shows the inability of the commission to stand up to responsibilities following the affirmation of the commission’s readiness in terms of security and logistics to conduct elections earlier this week.”
They however call on students to remain calm during this period of elections, “as informations regarding resumptions and examination updates will be properly channeled to them through their respective students union government representatives by managements of institutions.”
