The Union’s Deputy President, Comrade Oloruntade Ibikunle, who made the clarification while featuring on a radio programme on Wednesday said that any deduction experienced in the workers’ salary was for bank loans incurred by the affected staff and deduction from cooperative associations they belong to.
He disclosed that the deductions, which were stopped when the workers were still receiving their salaries in percentage have been resumed as the workers are now receiving full salaries.
Ibikunle, however, stated that workers can always make complaints to relevant officials, and also encouraged them to always request for their pay slips so that they will know the exact reason for any deduction in their salaries.
The NULGE deputy president also spoke on the State Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC), stressing that it is an arrangement among all the 16 local government councils in the State.
He said the State government only plays a supervisory role as the Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, while the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs serves as the deputy.
Ibikunle also acknowledged the support of all Kwarans towards the recent passage of the Local Government Autonomy Bill by the Kwara State House of Assembly, which he said is one of the first six state assemblies to pass the bill.
