The Kwara State Drug Control Committee in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency today, organised a programme to commemorate the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit with the theme: HEALTH FOR JUSTICE, JUSTICE FOR HEALTH the programme was geared towards educating members of the public on the resultant effects of consumption of illicit drugs and drug abuse.
In her welcome speech, the chairperson of the committee Pharm. Mrs B.O Olanrewaju said all hands must be on deck to ensure that drug abuse is discouraged especially among youths as it is a cause of crime and other social vices in society.
Lending credence to the chairperson speech, the Kwara State First Lady, Mrs. Olufolake Abdurrahman Abdurrazaq commended the committee and the NDLEA and as well called for establishment of drug abuse clubs at all levels of institution of learning across the state to sensitise the youths. She further charged institutions and stakeholders to also provide evidence based system to aid in the prevention of drug abuse. In her final word, she clamoured for help for the rehabilitation of those who have been culturally involved in drug abuse.
The live-changing programme was kicked off yesterday with a sensitisation walk along Maraba, Post Office and Challenge axis in Ilorin as the grand finale is slated for tomorrow at Banquet Hall.
