MAYHAPS, investigations have revealed that Ilorin West has continued to top other local governments in Kwara Central and by extension Kwara state in appointments of political office holders.
The local goverment has twelve wards which includes; Adewole, Ajikobi, Baboko, Badari, Balogun alanamu central, Magaji ngeri, Ogidi, Ojuekun/zarumi, Oko-erin, Oloje, Ubandawaki, Warrah/egbe jila/oshin, all mainly within the “thickness” of Ilorin metropolis.
Though the most populous in the state with a population of about 364,666, the local government is also reputed for having the highest number of electorates in the state. According to the analysis released by INEC during the last election, Ilorin West prides itself with the highest voters turnout both during the presidential and gubernatorial election.
Consequently, the local government area is considered the most powerful in the state in term of political bigwigs with a rough estimate of about 60% of political office holders and veteran politicians in the state.
When the burning flame of revolution that eventually consumed one of the the most powerful and influential dynasty in the history of a Nigeria country took place, One would ordinarily think the damage(s) caused by the dynasty on the politics that mars the creation of LG will be burnt with it, but Alas, the reverse may be the case.
With this new administration in place, the LG continue to hold sway like an oracle in Kwara central with all available position for the district going to their fold.
In a white space of about 2 months, it has produced the governor, the chief of staff to the governor, the senator representing the Kwara central district at the National Assembly, a minister of the federation, and house leader of the state House of Assembly among several others.
Mayhaps, Asa, Ilorin South and East can only boast of two members at the House of Representatives, Director-generals of NBC and NAPTIN.
However, whatsoever might be the reasons for the continuous influence of this LG’s supremacy, it’s high time the governor looked into the politics of the Kwara central district and fashion out a direction to review the current “settings” of the local governments’ structure in the state.
