Ahead of the Gubernatorial and States Houses of Assembly elections in the country on the 9th day of March, 2019, the Federal Government has ordered that all land borders be closed temporarily .
The Minister of Interior, Lt. General A. B Dambazau gave the directive saying that the borders will be closed from Friday and would be re-opened on Sunday.
The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede in a statement said: “Further to the Gubernatorial/States Assembly elections taking place on Saturday, the 9th day of March 2019, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdurahman Bello Dambazau has directed the closure of all Nigerian Land borders with effect from 12 noon of Friday 8 March to 12 noon of Sunday 10th March 2019.
It continued: “This is to restrict movement across the borders during the election days. The public is to take note and ensure compliance.”
