A leading Pro-democracy group in Kwara state, Kwara Must Change has lauded the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kwara Axis over the recent protest against xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The group said NANS action is to send a very strong signal to the leadership of Nigeria and South Africa that should both country fail to address the issue of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa , the young people of Nigeria may not hesitate to take action.
In a statement by Kwara Must Change convener, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group said, when South Africa was under apartheid and oppression, NANS was at the forefront of the struggle for their liberation, adding that the students body also ensured that all Nigerian Students across the country contributed what was then known as Mandela tax, which was being regularly sent to South Africa to support their struggle.
According to Hamzat, if the oppressed South Africans of yesterday have now become the oppressors of today, NANS which played a major role in their quest for freedom should certainly have a say and the protest of NANS in Kwara should be a clear message to the people and government of South Africa.
Kwara Must Change therefore urged the Nigerian government to take the protest of Nigerian Students very seriously and proffer solution to the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
Recall that THE INFORMANT247 has reported that the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kwara Axis on Wednesday shut down the South African businesses in Kwara.
The students’ body close down ShopRite along Fate road and MTN at Taiwo Road both in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, among other business operated by South Africans in Kwara.
