A former senator representing Kwara Central and chieftain of the All progressive Congress, Senator Gbemisola Saraki has empowered about 5000 persons across the 16 local government in Kwara State in various skills.
The beneficiaries were trained in cosmetology, automechanics, block making, carpentry among others.
Saraki, in conjunction with the National Directorate of Employment also empowered them with working tools to help them become independent.
She furthermore disbursed N10,000 to 400 petty traders each to sustain their business.

“A truism states that it takes a woman to raise a nation. Therefore, empowering women by training them in new vocations and supporting them to reach their potentials remain a viable path of rebuilding our communities and our nation thus renewing our destinies and our future as a people. The NDE Cosmetology training programme for one thousand and two hundred and fifty women in kwara state has created such an opportunity.”
“Indeed, this truism becomes a new anthem for over a thousand women in Kwara that are today retooled and empowered through this training in cosmetology that was conducted by the National Directorate of Employment in collaboration with the GRS Movement. It provides a new vista of opportunities in financial independence and social pride to our women and their families, many of whom were with bleak hopes until now.”

“Today, Mrs. Adijat Razaq from Ilorin; Hajia Raliat Saka from Afon: Idiat Amua from Offa and Hajia Bilikisu Sha’aba from Patigi are producing liquid soap, insecticides and disinfectants and selling within and beyond their communities. Encouraged by the support of the Muhammadu Buhari led Government, the beneficiaries are already organized into several cooperatives, amidst registering their business names for their new trade in Cosmetology.”
