The results of heavy rainfall in FCT has on Thursday 25th worsen the flood situation in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. It claimed the (FCT) Abuja leading road to Hajj Camp.
As reported, the rain falls for about six hours and eventually result to flood disaster which claimed the entire roads and caused confusion for pilgrims set to leave for Hajj at their stipulated time.
The road was clumsy for about five hours which made the pilgrims that were expected to be in Hajj camp in the morning still on the road battling with the flood.
Vehicular movement was at standstill as no driver could overlook the risk of the flood knocking the car out of control or even complete drowning.
“I left my house as early as expected in the morning so as to meet up with the time. Unfortunately, the road was choked up with vehicles that were trying to escape in the flood.” Says one of the Pilgrim.
Meanwhile, the locals living by the road side saw the flood disaster as a means of earning a living. People who needed to cross the bridge, paid three hundred naira (#300)to be commuted to the other side.
Speaking with one of the villagers, one said, “The bridge has been our source of income whenever their is heavy rainfall that resulted to flood disaster like the present situation. Well, we are not happy about it that the floods often stop people from their day to day activities.” Says Ibrahim
However, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Road Safety corps (FRSC) members were present at the place to guard against greater disaster. In collaboration, they advised the Abuja pilgrims to be rest assured of safety and easy passage to their destinations.
The pilgrims has however pleaded to the government for quick intervention over flooding issues on Abuja roads.
