The current political atmosphere in the major opposition party, All Progressive Congress in Kwara state is becoming more tense as different revelations continue to unfolds.
Investigations revealed that the leader of the opposition party in the state, Alhaji Lai Muhammad is set to impose a christian aspirant, Mr Ayo Obisesan, on the people of Magaji Ngeri ward (Ilorin Central), a predominate Muslim community, in Kwara state, THE INFORMANT247 can authoritatively reports.
It was gathered that Obisesan who is believed to be a key loyalist of Lai Muhammad is a christain from Ilesha in the state of Osun.
However, unlike other wards in the state capital, the Magaji Ngeri ward is known to be an home for distinguish traditional rulers and Islamic scholars in the state which includes, the Emir of Ilorin, the chief Imam of Ilorin, the imam imale among numerous others.
While speaking to a popular traditional ruler in the area who pleaded not to be named, he said, “It is very unacceptable for the people to be dispose of their choice thereby imposing a christain aspirant on them, this will be an automatic walkover for the opposing candidate and prevent the people from making a choice”
Also commenting on the issue, a resident of Ago market in Ilorin express displeasure over the candidacy of a Christain on such a Muslim populated community.
“How do you expect a Christian to win in a community where we have 99.99% Muslims. Even if his candidacy is a good one, believe me religion will play out. I will urge the opposition leader, Lai Muhammad to change his plan and allow the people’s will to prevail, because we are ready to resist this with all we have” – he concluded.
Other aspirants who contested primary together includes Barrister Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, and Olawoyin Mogaji.
A daughter of the Emir of Ilorin, Aishat Sulu Gambari will be flagging the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for the ward.
