The Leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Kwara State (NANS/JCC Kwara state axis) led by Comr Adebayo Saheed Olosasa has frowned at the act of the students of College of Education, Ilorin going on protest in the early hours of Monday 13, August without notifying the apex students union body in the state.
In a press statement made available to The Informant247, jointly signed by the Chairman of NANS/JCC, Comr. Olosasa, the Secretary General, Comrade Ola Muyiwa Micheal and the Publicity Secretary, Abdulyekeen Mohd Bashir, where they described the act as a protest against injustice but a crude way of trooping out as it was not properly planned and the appropriate bodies were not notified which resulted to the security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force to come out and calm the situation for hours which led to the arrest of some students.
In the press statement, the leadership of NANS Kwara also appreciated the Provost of the College, the Directorate of Students Affairs to the Senate President Mandate office led Comrade Issa Abdulhameed Adangba, Nigeria Police Force, National Association of Kwara State Students representatives, the COED students Union representatives, COEASU Executives and the School Management for their interventions in managing the situation.
On the other hand the NANS/JCC Executives lashed out on the state government after pleading for salary timely payment and conducive atmosphere for the students, NANS said: “it is a slap on the government’s face and the State at large for people to protest before getting their entitlements as this will not portray the good image of the state and it’s citizenry amongst comity of State”.
NANS however appreciated the swift intervention of Kwara State Government as some staff made it known that they have started receiving the Bank alert of the payment on the spot.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS/JOINT CAMPUS COMMITTEE (NANS/JCC), Kwara State Axis.
Press release,
14th August, 2018.
Protocols.
In the early hours of Monday on the 13th of August 2018, it came to our notice that some College Of Education (COED) Ilorin students came out in their numbers to protest against the injustice melted upon them.
Sequel to the protest, the apex students union body was not notified of any protest neither by the students nor their representatives and we as a body frown totally at such act.
On getting to the scene, we were informed that the cause of the protest was due to the fact that the “College of Education Academic Staff Union” (COESU), a body representing the Academic/teaching staff had boycotted the examinations that are meant to hold on that particular day due to unpaid of backlogs of salaries and other entitlements, the students on the other hand felt cheated then resulted to the crude way of trooping out in mass to the government House. Why I refer to the protest as crude was because it was not properly planned and organized, the appropriate student bodies were not notified, and this led to the security operatives of the Nigerian Police Force to come out and calm the situation for hours.
The students of the school were not demobilized despite the police intervention, they demanded that examinations must hold, the Executive of the National Association Of Nigerian Student Joint Campus Committee (NANS/JCC) Kwara State Axis, led by Comrade Adebayo Saheed Olosasa came to the school premises, addressed the students and urged everyone of them to be law abiding, respect the constituted authorities and shun any act of breakdown of Law and order, he further told the students that the situation is under control and their examinations will start immediately the next day after the protest which is 14/08/2018.
Amongst those who addressed the students were the Provost of the college, the Directorate of Student Affairs to the Senate President mandate office led by Comrade Issa Abdulhameed Adangba, and the students were successfully and happily demobilized.
The NANS/JCC Executives, NAKSS representatives, the school student Union representatives, the Directorate of Student affairs to the Senate President, the COESU Executives and the school management later met at closed-door to harmonize the grievances of all parties, and to our delight their request was attended to with immediate effect as some staff made it known that they have started receiving Bank alerts.
NANS/JCC Kwara axis earnestly plead with the state government and the Gov Abdulfatah Ahmed Led administration in its magnanimity to see students craving for learning as topmost priorities, the lecturers should be paid at when due, and conducive environment for learning should be provided and maintained. It is a slap on the government’s face and the State at large for people to protest before getting their entitlement as this will not portray the good image of the state and it’s citizenry amongst comity of State.
NANS/JCC Kwara axis appreciate the swift intervention of Kwara State government, the Nigerian Police Force, the Directorate of Student affairs to the Senate President, the entire NANS Executives, the representatives of NAKSS NHQs, the school student Union, the school Academic Staff Union (COESU), the School management and the entire students for not making the protest a destructive one rather a peaceful and calm movement.
Aluta Continua… Victoria Ascerta…
Signed.
