The chairperson of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, has called for the prosecution of Seun Kuti — the son of the famous Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti for slapping a police officer in Lagos State.
The Informant247 earlier reported that Seun Kuti slapped a police officer in police uniform; as captured in a video which has gone viral on social media.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, directed the security agency to effect the arrest of the musician.

While explaining his own side of the story, Seun Kuti said the police officer was after his own life, as he wanted to kill him and members of his family.
He added that the law enforcement agent had tendered his apology and that he (Seun) had accepted and welcome his apology.

The spokesperson of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani in a statement released on Sunday May 14 said the commission and its chairperson frowned at the assault meted out to the police officer while praising the police boss for ordering the arrest of the Afrobeats singer.
The chairperson of the PSC also hailed the concerned police officer for keeping calm amid intense provocation.

He called on the police to use the matter as precedent that assault on police officers would not be tolerated.

“As civilised people, we must explore established channels of complaints against alleged infractions by law enforcement officials rather than this uncouth behaviour of assaulting the symbol of authority in our country,” the PSC chairperson said.

“We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Seun to act as a deterrent to others of his ilk.”
