The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has condemned the eleventh hour appointments into vacant statutory Commissions by the outgoing Governor, describing it as a moral absurdity and sheer desperation of the expired political dynasty to apparently hold on to power.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa made this remarks in a statement issued by the party yesterday, stating that there is nothing to warrant the urgency for the filing of the vacant statutory commissions.
The party condemns the outgoing crop of PDP’s state legislators for the desperation to also consider siting for such screening and confirmation.
Unfortunately, while other State Houses of Assembly are holding valedictory sessions, the KWHA has decided to exhaust the window of last minute sitting to attend to such absurdity which is of no immediate importance to the state.
The APC therefore views the comments by the outgoing Speaker, Rt.Hon Ali Ahmad on the need to continue work till the last minute as empowered by a Supreme Court judgement as selfishly motivated rather than for public interest, which is aimed at perpetuating Saraki’s continued grip on the state even after their disgraceful exit.
Conversely, the three Statutory commissions namely; the Kwara State Civil Service Commission, Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission and State Fiscal Responsibility Commission whose Chairmen and members nominated by Governor Ahmed have been screened and confirmed by the KWHA should be categorically and unequivocally condemned.
A statutory commission should not be something like a group of people trying desperately to enter Paradise. Most right thinking Kwarans are opposed to this hasty and urgent approach to inaugurate this vacant commissions at the last minute of this administration.
We condemn the KWHA’s resolve to legitimize this desperation by the outgoing government. The legislative arm ought not be part of this desperate tactics to undermine due diligence in the appointments into these vacant statutory commissions.
