In a harrowing incident that shook the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) campus in Ogun State, several female students were reportedly raped during a robbery attack.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when a group of suspected armed robbers invaded student hostels situated in the Abapawa area, adjacent to the campus.
The gravity of the situation prompted a swift response from the state’s government. Ogun State’s Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, alongside the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, and the Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, rushed to the university to assess the situation and provide support to the affected students.
Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedele expressed her dismay on her verified Facebook page, labeling the incident as “distressing and brutal.” She went on to describe the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
She detailed her visit to the victims, who were later moved to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for specialized care.
Salako-Oyedele emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and safety of all citizens, promising that the Ogun State Government, together with the police, would leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
