The Kwara State capital and its environs have been hit by acute water scarcity, despite the billions approved on water project by successive administration in the state.
Some of the affected areas imcludes: Edun, Gaa-akanbi, Sango, Okelele, Okekere, Oloje, Oja-Oba, Gambari, Murtala, Ga-imam among others. Resident were lamenting the agony they were going through before getting water.
At the moment most inhabitants of the town have resorted to buying water from water tankers and some private water vendors who buy in large quantities from water tankers and retail to consumers.
The scarcity has also elicited sharp increases in water rates as a drum of about 50 litres is now N150, while the Senate President team are said to be selling theirs N200.
A resident, Ibrahim Ayo expressed disappointment over the insensitivity of the government to the problem of water scarcity in the state.
He said that, it is a pity that despite the billions of naira approved for water project during Bukola Saraki’s administration, the state still suffering​ from water scarcity.
Ibrahim, however, appealed to the state government to look into the issue to avoid epidemic in the state.
Recall that the then Governor, Bukola Saraki, awarded a sum of 2.3 billion Naira for water projects during his tenure.
All efforts to contact the General Manager of the State Water Cooperation proved abortive.
