KWARA STUDENTS’ BURSARY: VICTORY AT LAST AS STATE GOVERNMENT RELEASES PART-PAYMENT OF 50 MILLION NAIRA.
It was a moment of joy and what could be referred to as “Victory at last” as the Kwara State government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed finally approved the immediate release of the sum of fifty (50) million naira as part-payment for bursary payments of Kwara State Students.
The breakthrough finally came after several struggle and threats to protest by the apex Student’s’ body catering for the welfarism of all Kwara State Students schooling in Nigeria and in diaspora, the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) led by Mr. Muhammad Mancha of the University of Ilorin.
The Students’ body was led to the meeting with the Executive Governor by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and Students matters in person of Comr. Bisi Fakayode, and was well attended by members of the three (3) arms of the Union.
The Executive Governor in his speech stated that the sum of 50 million have been approved for immediate release, and would be made available to the scholarship board before Friday the 9th day of November. He also added that his government is working on the State of infrastructure of state-owned institutions, he added that more hostels would be constructed through Public Private Partnership (PPP).
On the increase of school fees in state-owned institutions, the State Governor maintained that there was no hike in school fees in the state, and that the State government would liase with the management of the institutions so that they can extend the deadline for payments. He added that they are also working in order to make sure that all courses offered in the state-owned institutions are accredited.
His Excellency also stated that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that scholarships are granted to academically sound Students, and that a scheme for that would be unveiled soonest, he added that his administration is committed to providing job opportunities for all and sundry.
The Union in their statement expressed gratification to the Governor for his words of encouragements and kind gestures, they also commended the Special Adviser on Labour and Students’ matters for ensuring the release of the bursary funds and others who also played a role or the other in the struggle. Lastly, they urged all Students to remain calm as they work our strategies of disbursement with the scholarship board.
