Kwara State Squash Association has registered 12 players, six Male and six Female players for the maiden edition of the North Central/invitational Squash Championship scheduled to begin at the Squash Court of the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Thursday.
The Squash Championship, tagged ‘AGF Abdul-Razaq Classic Championship’ is being packaged as a special 90th birthday anniversary for Alhaji AGF Abdul-Razaq (SAN), OFR.
The players, according to a
list made available to newsmen by the association, include Oluwafunmilayo Gabriel, Hammed Abdullahi, Ladi Abdulrahman, Damilola Ismail, Uthman Durosinlorun and Nasir Balogun, all Male players.
The Female players are Rofiat Abdulazeez, Faidat Soliu, Isaac Blessing, Odunade Adeyi, Kudirat Said and Aminat Musa.
They will compete for honour against their peers from Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Ogun, Lagos, Edo states and the FCT in the three-day championship.
The team will be handled by the trio of Coaches Alarape Atanda, Isiaka Mogaji and Bilikisu Mogaji.
Prizes for the Male event include N75, 000 as winner’s prize, and N50, 000 for the second placed player.
The joint third place players will get N340, 000 each, 5th to 8thplaced players will get N20, 000 each, while those ranked 9th to 16th after the competition will get N10, 000 each.
In the female category, the winner will get N50, 000; runner-up gets N35, 000, while placements from the joint third place finishers to the 16thplaced player will get same as the male players
Alhaji AGF Abdul-Razaq (SAN) is the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria, former Minister of State Transport in 1965; first Kwara State Commissioner of Finance in 1968, former Chairman Body of Benchers, and former President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
He was the Founder of the first privately owned secondary school in Kwara state, Ilorin College, Ilorin, presently Government High School, in 1968.
