KWARA 2019: RED SUNDAY IN ILORIN AS HOODLUMS ATTACK APC MEMBERS, KILL ONE, FIVE INJURED, OVER 50 VEHICLES VANDALISED
It was a red Sunday in Ilorin, the capital City of Kwara State as thugs suspected to be members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) attacked the Ilorin West All Progressive Congress (APC) during an empowerment program which was attended by the APC gubernatorial candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and other APC stalwarts that included Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, Comrade Esinrogunjo Musbau, and the Chairman of Ilorin West APC, Hon. Suleiman Tejidini. The attack which occurred at Ode Alfa Nda, Ilorin led to the death of one (1) person, scores injured and hospitalized, and many cars vandalized.
The APC gubernatorial candidate in person of Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq was also not spared as his car was also shot before he could be whisked out of the scene.
The empowerment program which was sponsored by an APC chieftain, Abdulmumin Jawondo who is a chartered accountant based in Sokoto state, was organized to distribute 2000 UTME Jamb forms to prospective tertiary education students, note books to other students, and empowerment to women as a contribution towards alleviation of poverty in his community.
Mayhem was released when thugs from Agbaji quarters, allegedly loyal to the Senate President came to disrupt the program and left people in attendance to scamper for safety. Three (3) vehicles belonging to the sponsor of the program were amongst score of vehicles vandalised which include some others with following plate numbers: RBC 981AP (Mercedes Benz ML 300), AGL 601BB (Toyota Camry), AG 369 Shao (Honda Jeep).
While speaking with the press, Abdulmumin Jawondo who sponsored the empowerment program expressed that he believed the security apparatuses were compromised as the officers were onlookers while the alleged ‘Saraki good boys’ attacked their members. This view was also echoed by Comrade Esinrogunjo Musbau, and chairman of the party in Ilorin West, Hon. Tejidini who also said that he doesn’t have believe in the security apparatus in the State. Abdulmumin Jawondo however advised politicians not to see elections as war, they should be peaceful and enjoin their supporters to do same. He also commended the APC supporters for not embarking on reprisal attacks which could have escalated the crisis.
He added that it was regrettable that Kwara State is now an haven for thugs, contrary to the peaceful and harmonious State it was known for.
Meanwhile, there was also further disruption at at the party Secretariat, Surulere where the party chieftain were addressing the press.
The injured people have reportedly been rushed to the Kwara State General hospital as of the time of filling this report.
